Anything Goes opened on November 21, 1934 at the Alvin Theater in New York. The show, originally written by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse and later revised by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, starred a young singer named Ethel Merman as Reno Sweeney. Reviews of the show itself and the performers in it were very enthusiastic, but the biggest raves went to the music and lyrics of Cole Porter.
Anyhthing Goes was revived in 1962 at Manhattan's Orpheum Theatre with six more Porter songs added. (It's Delovely, Heaven Hop, Friendship, Let's Step Out, Let's Misbehave, and Take Me Back to Manhattan were not included in the original production.)
You are about to embark on a pleasureable cruise
from New York to England -- Bon Voyage!
